YANGON, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The Myanmar government on Tuesday granted amnesty to 259 prisoners to welcome the second meeting of the 21st Century Panglong Peace Conference scheduled in Nay Pyi Taw for Wednesday, according to an order of the presidential office.

The prisoners to be released under the amnesty are 186 Myanmar nationals and 73 foreigners.

The Myanmar prisoners will be freed to encourage them to serve the country, while the foreign prisoners are to be released to maintain the friendship with the foreign countries, the order said.

The first meeting of the 21st Century Panglong Peace Conference was held on Aug. 31, 2016.
