NANNING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Seven people have been confirmed dead in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region after a rainstorm-triggered flood hit four cities in the region from Tuesday to Wednesday, the regional flood control headquarters said.

As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, 10 counties in the four cities of Nanning, Wuzhou, Guigang and Yulin had been affected by the heavy rain.

The storm also left more than 100 houses collapsed and damaged 1,330 hectares of cropland, resulting in a direct economic loss of nearly 60 million yuan (8.7 million U.S. dollars), the headquarters said.

Rescue and disaster relief work is under way.
