Portugal probes fuel pump failure at Lisbon airport

LISBON, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's public ministry is investigating a fuel pump failure in Lisbon airport which left thousands stranded earlier this month, Portuguese Lusa news agency reported on Thursday.

Lisbon's Department for Investigation and Penal Action opened an inquiry following an application by Airports of Portugal (ANA), which called for the public ministry to open an investigation in order to claim compensation on behalf of the concessionaire.

According to ANA executive president Carlos Lacerda, the fuel pump failure affected 41,861 passengers on May 10, while 97 flights were cancelled, 202 were delayed and another 12 had to be diverted to other airports.

Lacerda said that passengers affected should call for airlines they flied with to compensate them.
