ADDIS ABABA, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia has applied to officials at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) for its air carrier Ethiopian Airlines to be allowed to increase flights intervals from the current once a week.

The statement was made on Friday by Meles Alem Spokesperson of Ethiopia's Foreign Ministry who says the proposed increase in flight intervals would be from three Saudi cities, Jeddah, Jizan and Medina.

The plans to increase flight intervals is intended to help return Ethiopians living illegally in Saudi Arabia, estimated to be around 400,000 before an amnesty deadline by the Kingdom for illegal foreign residents to leave expires in 25 days.

The Middle East's largest economy is on an indigenization drive to help its 29 million citizens be employed in the workforce currently dominated by millions of legal and illegal foreign citizens.
