ANKARA, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Visiting German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel vowed on Monday more efforts to fight the Kurdistan Workers' Party's (PKK) activities in Germany.

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in Ankara, Gabriel said PKK is also a danger to Germany and they were determined to take additional measures against the group.

The PKK, which Berlin has recognized as a terrorist organization since 1993, is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the EU.

Berlin will review Turkey's request for the extradition of nearly 4,500 Turkish nationals living in Germany who are described as terror suspects by Ankara, according to Gabriel.

Cavusoglu said the two ministers discussed steps necessary to be taken to improve bilateral relations, adding that he told his German counterpart about a number of issues Turkey is concerned about, including rising anti-Turkey sentiment in Germany and activities of terrorist groups.

Both sides stressed the need to maintain good ties by focusing on a "positive agenda," as a breakdown in relations would serve neither side.

Tensions between Turkey and Germany have risen in recent months, as the Turkish government is resentful that Berlin is reluctant to meet the Turkish demands for the extradition of alleged PKK members.

Moreover, Turkey accuses Germany of providing a safe haven for hundreds of Gulenists, who are blamed by Ankara for orchestrating a failed coup attempt last July.
