BERLIN, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Two men from Syria had been taken into custody in connection to the terror threat at the Rock am Ring music festival in Nuremburg, which was evacuated on Friday, the German newspaper Rhein Zeitung reported on Tuesday.

According to media reports, the police became aware of a potential terror threat on Friday after they conducted a spot check on a car where two Syrian men had full access festival wristbands but were not on the security list that the organizers had given to the police.

The police subsequently could not rule out a terror threat and issued and official terror warning for the Friday part of the weekend festival.

German media reported on Tuesday that after further investigation, the Syrian men were thought to have been sent to the festival by a subcontractor for temporary work, and is the reason why their names were not specifically on the list but did hold wristbands to access the festival.

According to police, even if the men were a genuine terror threat "they would not have had enough time to prepare for a possible attack" thanks to rapid police intervention.

The suspects were temporarily detained and subsequently released on Saturday morning. Police in the federal state of Hesse also searched the apartments of the suspects on Monday.
