LISBON, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Works of women artists from around the world are on show at an exhibition inaugurated here at Portugal's prestigious contemporary art gallery Perve Galeria.

The exhibition showcases 100 works by at least 30 women artists from around the world, including Ana Maria, Regina Frank and Maryam Al Qassimi.

"The concept of the exhibition is to reaffirm the fundamental role of women as a creative being in the contemporary world," curator Carlos Cabral Nunes told Xinhua at the exhibition.

The exhibition titled "Triple F Land" and running through till July 15 is a parody of "Fado, Fatima (a famous religious town north of Lisbon) and Football," known as the pillars of Portugal's dictatorship which ended in 1974 following a bloodless coup.

"The title of the exhibition, triple F, was a starting point to make a parody of the notion (of three Fs) that dates back to the dictatorship, and to reflect on that in our current times," said the curator.

He further explained that the "triple F" of the exhibition means instead "forms, figuration and feminine."
