GAZA/RAMALLAH, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Islamic Hamas movement, which rules the Gaza Strip, hailed on Friday the double attacks carried out by four Palestinians near Damascus Gate in east Jerusalem.

Hazem Qassem, Hamas spokesman in Gaza said in a short text message sent to reporters that "the heroic attacks in Jerusalem is another evidence that our people continue their revolution against the occupier."

"The brave intifada (uprising) of our people will continue until the full liberation of our occupied lands," said Qassem, referring to a wave of tension that has been going on between Israel and the Palestinians since October 2015.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said Friday that Israeli police forces shot dead three Palestinians near Damascus Gate in East Jerusalem.

The Ramallah-based ministry said in an emailed press statement that Amer Badawi from Hebron, Aadel Ankoosh from Ramallah and the third one unidentified, were all killed by Israeli police gunfire.

Meanwhile, the Israeli police said in a press statement that the two attacks carried out by four Palestinians were a stabbing attack and a shooting attack separately, adding that three of the Palestinians were killed and the forth managed to escape.

The police said five Israelis were injured, including a policewoman who was critically wounded. Unconfirmed reports said the woman died of her wounds on the way to hospital.

Since October 2015, a wave of violent tension has been going on between Israel and the Palestinians, leaving at least 271 Palestinians and 47 Israelis killed, according to official Palestinian and Israeli figures.
