PANAMA CITY, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Katharina Yau has been crowned Panama's Chinese Queen, winning a chance to represent Panama at the upcoming Chinese Central American Convention, to be held in Guatemala from August 16 to 20, organizers said on Sunday.

In addition to winning the crown and a chance to participate in the coming event, Yau, who excelled in every category, including evening gown, swimsuit and the traditional tailored Chinese qipao, was awarded a car.

Runner up Yessica Luo and the third place winner Emily Zhang won a scooter and Chanel cosmetics products, respectively.

The judging panel was comprised of figures from the beauty and aesthetics sector.

Art Fung, the president of the Chinese-Panamanian Association, praised the contestants and called on them to continue to promote Chinese culture and traditions.

Each year, 12 Panamanians of Chinese descent vie for the title of Panama's Chinese Queen.

This year's event was held at the convention center of the Hotel El Panama.
