JAKARTA, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Taekwondo athletes from Indonesia have set a target of 2 gold medals each in the SEA Games in Malaysia next month and the Asian Games in Indonesia next year.
Chairman of the Indonesian Teakwondo Association Marciano Norman said Tuesday that the 29th SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia would be a barometer to measure the capability and capacity of the athletes before vying in the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang cities of Indonesia.
"We will make the Sea Games as a facility to evaluate athletes' achievement and as a barometer. And I am optimistic should the athletes be able to keep their best performance, two gold medals can be secured," he said.
According to Marciano Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia will be the toughest opponent for Indonesia in the regional sport event.
The Sea Games is scheduled from Aug. 19-30 next year and the Asian Games is from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2 next year.
Indonesia will send 12 taekwondo athletes to the Sea Games, according to the association.
