JALALABAD, Afghanistan, July 26 (Xinhua) -- At least eight insurgents loyal to the Islamic State (IS) group have been confirmed dead after security forces from the ground and air pounded the hardliner outfit positions in Achin district of the eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday, spokesman for provincial police, Hazrat Hussain Mashirqwal, said Wednesday.
"A total of eight IS rebels were killed after the government forces from the ground and air targeted their hideouts in Achid district on Tuesday," Mashriqwal told reporters here.
A cache of arms and ammunitions belonging to the hardliner IS group has also been destroyed, the official added, saying the security forces would continue to pursue the insurgents elsewhere in the province.
Militants loyal to the Islamic State group who are active in parts of the eastern Nangarhar province are yet to make comment.
