ARUSHA, Tanzania, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Revenues from Tanzania's tourism sector are expected to shoot up by 30 percent this year, a senior official said Wednesday.

Jumanne Maghembe, Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, said: "Such anticipation follows the number of tourists that visited the country this year."

"It is without any doubt that the sector is flourishing, we have never witnessed such a thing but I've seen it for myself and can attest to it," the minister said without divulging figures of tourists that had visited the east African nation so far this year.

Maghembe also expressed optimism over the prospects offered by the country's tourism sector.

The official said the country was lucky to host prominent visitors who he said had boosted the sector.

According to Maghembe, all tourist bookings as of Aug. 29 this year had been sealed, an indication of the number of tourists the country could host in the near future.

"The future looks rosy for the sector, I urge tour operators to exhibit professionalism while guiding their guests during their stay in the country," the minister explained.

He singled out the recent visit by 52 Young Presidents Organization (YPO) who toured different attractions found in Tanzania as an icing on cake.

Maghembe however admitted that some of the roads leading to national parks and other tourist attractions were in bad shape, assuring that the government will have them fixed.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) Chief Conservator Freddy Manongi, said Geo Park was a new form of tourism that was fast becoming common in Asia.

"Such sites and landscapes are of international geological significance at the moment and as a country we are determined to capitalize in this kind of tourism," he said.

Known as the Lengai-Ngorongoro geo-park, the project will include run through Karatu, Monduli, Ngorongoro and Longido districts thus boost the country's tourism prospects. Enditem
