QALAT, Afghanistan, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Military crackdown against Taliban militants in Shah Joi district of the southern Zabul province of Afghanistan left seven insurgents dead on Tuesday, said a police official Mohammad Asif Tukhi.
"Taliban rebels were planning to storm some checkpoints on a road in Shah Joi district but the security forces in pre-emptive offensive foiled the vicious designs after killing seven rebels forcing them to flee," Tukhi told Xinhua.
The province of Zabul has Qalat as its capital, which is located 340 km south of capital Kabul.
Taliban militants, who are active in parts of Zabul and the neighboring Helmand and Kandahar provinces, have not commented.
