NEW YORK, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened mixed on Monday as investors were watching closely the latest geopolitical concerns.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 12.41 points, or 0.06 percent, to 21,662.10. The S&P 500 erased 0.77 points, or 0.03 percent, to 2,424.78. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 0.70 points, or 0.01 percent, to 6,217.23.

With no key data expected to be released on Monday, Wall Street were awaiting a closely watched speech that U.S. President Donald Trump will deliver Monday night about the administration's strategy for the war in Afghanistan. Besides, investors also kept an eye on the geopolitical tensions between the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

In the previous session, the stocks closed lower amid personnel change in the White House.

Trump announced earlier this month that he was disbanding both the Manufacturing Council and Strategy and Policy Forum, as business leaders resigned from the council over his remarks on Charlottesville violence.

Moreover, Trump also removed Steve Bannon as his chief strategist last week.

Analysts said recent turmoil in Washington spurred market concerns about whether the Trump administration is able to push through its economic agenda. Enditem
