NEW DELHI, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- A passenger plane of India's national carrier Air India Saturday aborted take-off at the last minute at Mumbai airport after a technical glitch was detected, a senior aviation official said.

"The incident took place at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport this morning when Air India flight AI 054, with over 150 passengers on board, was about to take-off for the southern Indian city of Kochi," he said.

"The aircraft was taxiing when the pilot noticed some technical glitch and decided to abort the take-off and return to the bay. The plane has now been grounded. All the passengers and crew members are safe," the official added.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he said.

The incident came just four months after a Delhi-bound passenger plane of private airline Jet Airways aborted take-off at the last minute after suffering a bird hit at Varanasi airport in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
