TOKYO, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Japan's jobless rate remained unchanged from a month earlier in July at 2.8 percent, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said in a report on Tuesday.

According to the report, the number of employed persons in July stood at 65.63 million, an increase of 0.9 percent from the previous year.

The number of people unemployed in Japan in July stood at 1.91 million, the report said, a decrease of 5.9 percent from the previous year.

Both seasonally adjusted figures for July were in line with median economists' forecasts.

Job availability in Japan, meanwhile, rose to 1.52 in July from 1.51 a month earlier, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said separately on Tuesday.

This compares to 1.37 in the same month a year earlier and translates to 152 positions being available for every 100 people seeking jobs.

The job availability figure also matched median economists' expectations.

The latest figure marks the highest availability of jobs since February 1974.
