DAMASCUS, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese embassy in Syria has provided school supplies to the Palestinian refugee children in Syria on Thursday.

A variety of pens, pencils and other writing stationery, as well as school bags, were donated to the Palestinian children living in Palestinian refugee camps.

During an event held at the Chinese embassy in Damascus with the presence of officials from the Palestinian embassy, the Chinese ambassador to Syria Qi Qianjin said the aid is designed to assist the children in their study.

The ambassador said that China is deeply concerned about the humanitarian situation in Syria and sympathizes with the people's suffering.

He noted that China will continue to play a constructive role in finding a political solution, in tandem with its ongoing effort to provide aid.

For his part, Anwar Abdul-Hadi, Director of the Palestinian Liberation Organization's Political Bureau in Damascus, hailed China's stance in supporting the Palestinians and Syrians.

Syria hosted a pre-war number of around 500,000 Palestinians who fled to Syria following the establishment of Israel in 1948.

Large numbers of the Palestinian refugees lived in several camps across Syria, but such areas have suffered from the war in Syria since 2011.
