BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- A young Argentine rugby player died after a hard tackle sent him off the field and into convulsions, local media reported on Sunday.
Gonzalo Castro, 20, suffered a collapsed lung after he was tackled by a rival as part of a third-division rugby game Saturday between his team, Berazategui Rugby Club, and home team Floresta Rugby Club, in Ciudad Evita, in western Greater Buenos Aires.
Castro was taken off the field, but "after a few minutes, while he was trying to recover on the sidelines, he began to suffer convulsions and the decision was made to take him to a hospital," the daily Clarin said.
However, witnesses said an ambulance was slow to arrive, and he was taken aboard a private car. He died before reaching the hospital.
"We will do everything necessary to find out what happened and at the URBA (Buenos Aires Rugby Union), we must all continue to work together so that a tragedy like this does not happen again," Patricio Roan, the group's president, posted to the Rugby Champagne website.
