LANZHOU, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's Dunhuang Academy, which administers the Mogao Grottoes, will take part in archaeological missions in Kyrgyzstan.

According to an agreement signed on Wednesday between the academy and Kyrgyz authorities, the two sides will carry out joint surveys and excavations in Kyrgyzstan for five years.

They will also work together in protecting, digitizing and exhibiting their findings.

It was the first such cooperation between the academy and a central Asian country along the ancient Silk Road, in a response to the Belt and Road Initiative, said a spokesperson with the academy in northwest China's Gansu Province.

In July, the academy sent a group to visit sites in Kyrgyzstan, including the remains of Suyab City.
