WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- A new large-scale public-art mural by well-known contemporary artist Yoko Ono was unveiled on Friday at a popular market in downtown Washington D.C.

"RELAX. YOUR HEART IS STRONGER THAN WHAT YOU THINK !" Big black letters spreading along the powder white exterior wall of the Union Market, Ono's new conceptual artwork is simple and impressive.

"I hope our hearts will be stronger and stronger forever," said Ono on her inspiration.

"I like this. Your heart tells a story about you, isn't it?" Al Burnett, a security guard in his 50s, told Xinhua.

"Sometimes your mind gets limited, but your heart will be open," he said.

The mural was presented by the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden partnering with the Union Market, a new initiative to exhibit international contemporary art beyond the museum walls and connect artists and curators with the U.S. capital' s communities.

Its opening is timed to coincide with the final weekend of the Hirshhorn exhibition "Yoko Ono: Four Works for Washington and the World," which closes Sunday and celebrates of the 10th anniversary of Ono's iconic "Wish Tree," a permanent installation in the museum.

Ono, born in Tokyo in 1933, is the second wife and widow of singer-songwriter John Lennon of the Beatles. She has been a forerunner of international conceptual art since the late 1950s.

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, located in central Washington D.C. as part of the Smithsonian, is a national museum of modern and contemporary art in the United States.
