15 militants killed, villages taken back in N. Afghanistan's clashes

CHARIKAR, Afghanistan, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- As many as 15 militants loyal to the Taliban group have been killed and three villages recaptured following Afghan forces operations in Siagurd district of Parwan province with capital Charikar 55 km north of Kabul, an official said Tuesday.

"Joint Afghan security and defense forces launched series of clean-up operations over the past 24 hours, in Siagurd district of the restive Parwan province, where Taliban hideouts were bombed leaving 15 fighters dead and three villages have been recaptured," an army spokesman Shir Aqa Faqiri told Xinhua.

Taliban militants who have been fighting in parts of Siagurd and adjoining areas have yet to make comment.
