CAIRO, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Egypt welcomed on Friday the decision of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences to award the Nobel Peace Prize to the International Campaign for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).
In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the decision reiterates the need to clear the world from nuclear weapons.
The ministry also praised efforts exerted by the ICAN at international and regional forums to eliminate nuclear weapons.
Egypt was one of the first countries that called for freeing the Middle East region from nuclear weapons, the statement read.
