Iran denies closure of ground borders with Iraqi Kurdistan region: spokesman

TEHRAN, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Iran has not closed its ground borders with Iraqi Kurdistan autonomous region, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi was quoted as saying by ISNA news agency.

"As we have announced, Iran has closed its air space to the Iraqi Kurdistan region at the request of Iraq's central government," Qasemi told ISNA.

"As for my information, no new developments have been taken place in this regard," he said.

Foreign reports said earlier on the day that Iran has partially closed its ground borders with Iraq Iraqi Kurdistan autonomous region.

On Sept. 24, Iran announced that it had blocked all flights to and from Iraq's Kurdish region At the request of the central government of Iraq.
