MEHTARLAM, Afghanistan, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- An explosion of militants' Improvised Explosive Device (IED) killed at least three militants and injured seven others in Alishing district of eastern Afghan province of Laghman, a statement said Thursday.

"The IED went off accidently late on Wednesday when the Taliban militants were trying to place it in along a road in Dehan Karnaj area of the district, leaving three dead and seven others wounded," the statement, released by army's 201 Selab Corps based in the region, read.

Taliban militants and Islamic State (IS) fighters are usually planting roadside mines and home-made IEDs to target security forces and blow state establishments in countryside.

Finding and neutralizing the weapons remained a challenge for Afghan security forces.
