GABORONE, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The chairperson of Southern African Development Community (SADC) Jacob Zuma said Friday that the regional bloc stands ready to provide all the necessary support to the people of Zimbabwe to resolve the current political crisis.
Zuma, also President of South Africa, said in Gaborone, capital of Botswana that the SADC note with great concern the unfolding developments and hope that they will not lead to unconstitutional change of government in Zimbabwe, an SADC member state.
Zuma made the remarks before addressing the 4th Session of the Bi- National Commission between Botswana and South Africa. He reminded all the parties involved to ensure that maintenance of peace and security as enshrined in the Zimbabwean constitution is not compromised.
When responding to Zuma, President Seretse Khama Ian Khama of Botswana said he remains confident they will provide solutions to the people of Zimbabwe and promised to be in contact with president Zuma to further discuss the matter in a week's time.
During official talks, the two Heads of States also reflected on a wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues. They expressed satisfaction at the strong bilateral relations existing between the two countries.
On the international level, the two also exchanged views on the political and security developments in the region and the continent. In this regard they reaffirmed their commitment to working together, bilaterally and under the auspices of SADC and the African Union in pursuit of sustainable peace and stability in the continent.
