Serbian police arrest 93 on crime, corruption charges

BELGRADE, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Serbian police forces arrested 93 suspects in separate police actions across the country, and filed 38 additional criminal charges on Monday.

The Interior Ministry stated that the charges included "acts of corruption and economic crime, tax evasion, and bribery of abuse of office".

Suspects were arrested in the capital Belgrade and major cities such as Novi Sad and Nis.

Suspects include six police officers, former head of a municipality, inspector of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, employees in city administrations, employees in tax administrations, as well as several more responsible persons in public enterprises.

In the field of combating general crime and narcotics smuggling, 56 people were arrested in total, and "3.3 kg of marijuana, 170 gm of heroin, 53 gm of cocaine, 280 gm of amphetamine and 17 pills of ecstasy were seized", according to the release.
