MADRID, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid and Sevilla face the final game of their respective Champions League group games on Wednesday night.
Real Madrid play at home to Borussia Dortmund, knowing that they have qualified for the knock out stage of the tournament, but that they are destined to finish in second place in their group as a result to their defeat against Tottenham earlier in the group stage.
Zinedine Zidane's side will be without right back Dani Carvajal through suspension after he finished a cycle of yellow cards away to APOEL Nicosia in Madrid' s last group game. Carvajal does, however, face a further ban after UEFA accused him of deliberately forcing the yellow card, which was for time wasting from a throw in as Madrid led 6-0 and he stands to miss a further game for unsporting behavior.
With a big Liga Santander at home to Sevilla on Saturday, Zidane is likely to rest some key players for the game with Meto Kovacic, Dani Ceballos and Borja Mayoral all getting a chance.
Dortmund have had a disastrous competition and have just two points after five games, although they still have a chance of qualifying for the second stage of the Europa League if they are able to match the result APOEL get in London.
Sevilla travel to face Slovenian side Maribor, looking for a win which will assure their place in the last 16.
The team from the south of Spain are currently second in the group with a two-point advantage over Spartak Moscow, who travel to Liverpool, but as the Russians hold the better head to head goal average, a win for Spartak at Anfield would qualify them ahead of Sevilla if the Spainsh side could only draw.
Ernesto Marcucci will be in the dugout again for Sevilla as Ernesto Berizzo continues his recovery following a cancer operation and he will no doubt be looking for a repeat of the serious performance his players produced when they beat Deportivo la Coruna 2-0 on Saturday.
Sevilla are still without central defenders Nico Pareza and Daniel Carrico through injury.
