Macao's restaurants, retailers report optimistic performance in October

MACAO, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Majority of the interviewed restaurants and retailers in Macao registered a year-on-year rise in revenue or a stable business performance in October 2017, and expected a rise in November, the special administrative region's statistics department said here on Wednesday.

The latest business climate report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) said that 68 percent of the interviewed restaurants and similar establishments registered a year-on-year rise in revenue or a stable business performance in October 2017, up by 6 percentage points from September.

As regards retail trade, the proportion of interviewed retailers reporting a year-on-year sales increase in October 2017 went up by 8 percentage points from September to 59 percent. On the other hand, 21 percent of the interviewed retailers registered a year-on-year sales decline, down by 3 percentage points over September.

The reports also said the interviewed restaurants and similar establishments were optimistic about their business prospects, with 68 percent expecting a year-on-year rise in revenue or a steady performance in November, up by 4 percentage points from October.

Retailers expected their sales to be stable in November, with 77 percent predicting a year-on-year sales increase or a steady business performance, the same proportion as in October.
