BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- The assembling mission of the E33 curve section of the undersea tunnel for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is successfully completed on Oct. 8, 2016, which has taken the World's longest cross-sea bridge a step closer to completion.
The tunnel, more than 40 meters under the sea, includes 28 straight sections and five curve sections, each weighing 80,000 tons – or the weight of a large aircraft carrier. So far, 28 straight and one curve sections have been connected.
The bridge includes a 6.7-km underwater tunnel and a bridge spanning 22.9 km and artificial islands. Construction began in December of 2009 at Zhuhai. The Y-shaped bridge starts from Lantau Island in Hong Kong with branches to Zhuhai and Macao. (Source: Xinhuanet)
