China has activated its level-four emergency response after typhoons Merandi and Malakas wreaked havoc on the eastern province of Zhejiang.
Typhoons brought heavy rainfalls to the province, where Wenzhou alone has seen a once-in-a-century downpour and ensuing flooding.
The typhoons have claimed the lives of 11 people, with 4 others missing. 20 million yuan in emergency funds have been allocated for disaster relief by provincial authorities.
Over 40 disaster relief groups with more than 800 rescue workers have been dispatched.
Direct economic losses were expected to be at about 5 billion yuan. Over one million people have been affected in the province.
