GAZA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The Hamas-run ministry of interior in Gaza has strengthened security on the borders with Egypt following Wednesday's deadly attacks in Sinai, an official said on Thursday.
"These security measures aim at restoring the status of security situation on the borders," said Iyad al-Bozzom, spokesman of the ministry.
The Egyptian military said in a statement late Wednesday that army raids killed 100 terrorists, while 17 government troops were killed and 13 others injured in the fighting earlier Wednesday with radical Islamist militants in the city of Sheikh Zowayed in North Sinai.
Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the attacks by radical Islamic militants on security forces in North Sinai.
"With deep grief and extreme outrage, we received the news on the crimes and the attacks were carried out by coward terrorist groups on the pure land of Sinai, and we certainly condemn it," Abbas said in a letter to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
