VIENNA, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday said China would play an important role in redesigning Iran' s Arak heavy water reactor.

Speaking to reporters after the clinching of the comprehensive nuclear deal, Wang said the redesigning of the Arak reactor was one of the core issues in the Iran nuclear talks.

Wang said a preliminary road map to redesign the heavy water reactor had been tabled. He added there would be a joint working group on the redesigning and reconstruction which would be co-chaired by China and the United States.

As China has put forward the idea regarding the modification of the Arak heavy water reactor, China would promote this process while enhancing communication with Iran, Wang said, adding this was the unique role China played in resolving the Iranian nuclear issue.
