DUESSELDORF, Germany, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Consulate-General of China in Germany's Duesseldorf city was officially launched on Saturday.
Germany is the only country in Europe in which up to four Chinese consulates have been set up, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at an opening ceremony here.
It symbolizes the high level of the Sino-German relationship and the all-dimensional strategic partnership, Wang added.
According to Wang, the Nordrhein-Westfalen state where Duesseldorf as the capital city is located, is one of the German states that maintains the closest relationship with China.
As the relationship between China and Germany goes broader and deeper, communications and exchanges between Nordrhein-Westfalen state and China will play a more and more important role for the Sino-German relationship, Wang said.
Wang met with State Governor of Nordrhein-Westfalen Hannelore Kraft and some mayors in the state before the opening ceremony.
We reached a common understanding that we shall make joint efforts to make North Westfallen an important transportation hub in western Europe for China and Germany to advance the "Belt and Road" initiative, Wang said.
The two sides also agreed to continue efforts to make Nordrhein-Westfalen a pilot area for the matchmaking of China's "Made in China 2025" and Germany's Industry 4.0 strategies.
Kraft said "We feel very happy that we eventually have a Chinese consulate in Nordrhein-Westfalen," adding that it is a sign of the cordial economic cooperation between the two sides.
According to Kraft, over 800 Chinese companies have set up their presence in the state, which made Nordrhein-Westfalen the most popular destination for Chinese investment in Germany.
