HELSINKI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- A Finnish researcher has claimed to have uncovered a way of cheating that two top Bridge players have used, media reported on Thursday.
Researcher Nezer Zaidenberg told Finnish national broadcaster Yle that world-level Bridge players Lotan Fisher and Ron Schwartz had a code related to the way the bidding box is positioned.
Yle reported that Zaidenberg was able to break the code through analysis of video taped tournaments. The results was said to confirm that the position of the bidding box transmitted messages between the players.
Yle said that while suspicions of cheating had surfaced earlier, this was the first time a method was proven.
In Bridge competition, communication between the players is restricted to the cards given in the bidding. Verbal communication is prohibited.
Fisher and Schwartz have won several world championships and European and North American championships during the past years. The pair received numerous accusations without persuasive proof.
