Probe founds improper storage of waste blamed for Shenzhen landslide

Source: Xinhua   2016-07-15 19:21:08

BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- A landslide that killed 73 and left four others missing in the southern city of Shenzhen in December was an " extraordinarily serious production safety accident," according to a report issued Friday by a State Council investigation team.

After nearly seven months of investigation, the team concluded that the accident was caused by the improper storage of waste from construction sites, and a lack of drainage system in the landfill site.

Besides incurring serious fatalities, the accident, which happened on Dec. 20 last year, destroyed 33 buildings and caused direct economic losses of 881 million yuan (131.88 million U.S. dollars).
