SOFIA, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian law enforcement authorities have seized 33.253 kg of heroin at Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint near the country's southeastern border with Turkey, officials said here on Tuesday.
The heroin, split into 64 packets, was hidden in a bread machine, transported by a bus traveling from Turkey to Bulgaria, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.
Two Bulgarians were arrested subsequently in the nearby town of Haskovo, the statement said.
However, the heroin was destined for western Europe, the ministry said.
Authorities estimated the value of the heroin on the black market would exceed 2.25 million U.S. dollars.
Bulgaria, a key transit route for drugs smuggled from Asia to Europe, has seized at its borders 256 kg of heroin in 2015. Enditem
