ANKARA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police have called on locals living in the Karkamis district of the border province Kilis to evacuate the area for their life security, following a series of mortar shells fired from the Islamic State (IS)-controlled Syrian territory, Dogan News Agency reported on Tuesday.
Minibuses were dispatched to the district governor's office to pick up locals who do not own a vehicle.
The police's warning came after another mortar shell fired from Syria hit the garden of the Karkamis Municipality building earlier on Tuesday.
Civil servants in the district will be granted administrative leave of two days due to the attacks, the report said.
Turkish artillery units across the border continued to retaliate to the fire by shelling IS positions in Syria's Jarablus.
