MADRID, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and 14 were injured following an explosion in a block of flats in the town of Premia del Mar on Sunday morning.
According to emergency services, the blast happened at around 8:25 a.m. local time in the seaside town which is 25 kilometers north of Barcelona.
The cause of the explosion is not yet known, although an early theory is that it was caused by a gas leak in the second floor of the seven-storey building, which contains three flats on each of the different floors.
Among the injured, two were in serious conditions. The explosion also caused a fire. 16 fire engines were called to the scene.
Ambulances were also called in to help evacuate the injured, while those who were not hurt were evacuated by the fire brigade.
After extinguishing the fire, the fire brigade carried out a structural check on the building. It reported serious damages on the second floor.
