Indonesia, Fiji to boost cooperation on defense, counter-terrorism

JAKARTA, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- The governments of Indonesia and Fiji on Friday agreed to strengthen cooperation on defense sector and fighting against terrorism, Indonesian Minister said here.

Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu met with his Fijian counterpart Inoke Kubuabola at defense ministry office on Friday.

During the meeting, plans of exchanging intelligence and joint military exercise were discussed, Minister Ryamizard said.

The Fijian defense minister also said that both nations had been committed to stepping up defense cooperation.

On fight against terrorism, Ryamizard said the two nations had to cooperate to counter the threat from IS group.

"Our common enemy is the IS group. We must fight against it together," he stressed.

Asia and Pacific regions are among the global targets of the IS group. Recently its top leader has ordered IS militants from various nations to launch strikes in their own country following an offensive move against the IS base in Mosul of Iraq and Syria.
