NEW YORK, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Canada's Immigration and Citizenship website broke down as Donald Trump surged ahead in the U.S. presidential election and was out of access for hours Tuesday and Wednesday, U.S. media reports.
The website has become temporarily inaccessible to users as a result of a significant increase in the volume of traffic, Lisa Filipps, spokeswomen for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, was quoted by CNN as saying.
Google Trends shows the search traffic for "Canada immigration," "Canada" and "move to Canada" has increased in the United States in the past seven days and the search terms were particularly popular in U.S. states of Oregon, Washington, Vermont and California, according to an NPR report.
The Business Insider reports that the top story on its website Tuesday night has been "How to move to Canada and become a Canadian citizen."
Many U.S. celebrities threatens to flee the United States for Canada, Europe or outer space should Republican Candidate Donald Trump win the White House on Tuesday, CNN reported.
"If he were to be elected, I am moving to Jupiter," Cher, a superstar singer, tweeted in 2015.
Amy Schumer, a U.S. comedian and actress, said she would be bound for Spain should Hillary Clinton lose.
"My act will change because I will have to speak Spanish as I will move to Spain, or somewhere," she was quoted as saying by CNN. "It is beyond my comprehension if Trump won. It is too crazy."
"Every election, there is that chorus of people who insist they are moving to Canada if candidate so-and-so wins," said NPR's political reporter Danielle Kurtzleben.
But determining how many people actually follow through is surprisingly difficult, Danielle found.
