BRUSSELS, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- The opening ceremony of the exhibition "Art & Peace" held by the Chinese Artists Association (CAA) was held on Tuesday evening at China Cultural Center in Brussels.
The exhibition, lasting from Dec. 7 to 19, covers a wide range of themes and artistic currents. While some works reflect contemporary social problems, some refer to historical events, some are rather inspired by literature and some simply depict natural scenes.
About 40 pieces of work previously exhibited at the Beijing International Art Biennale, an international art platform aiming to promote Chinese artists and fine arts exchanges, were specifically chosen for this exhibition.
Hundreds of representatives from political, business and cultural sectors and journalists attended the ceremony.
Chinese Ambassador to Belgium Qu Xing said in his speech that he was pleased to see that cultural institutions play an important role in the bilateral cultural exchanges and expressed his best wishes for the friendly exchanges between China and Belgium in the future.
Minister-President of the Brussels capital-region, Rudi Vervoort, highly praised the theme of the exhibition. He said that it is the cultural exchanges with peace as the theme that enable pluralistic societies to regain glory of the past.
