ANKARA, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- 11 Islamic State (IS) militants were killed and 347 of their targets were struck in Al-Bab in northern Syria during military operations in the past 24 hours, stated Turkish General Staff on Wednesday.

According to the Turkish army, 335 IS targets were shelled, destroying shelters, defense posts, vehicles and command centers.

In addition, Turkish jets conducted airstrikes against 12 terrorist targets in Al-Bab and the surrounding region, including three shelters, two command-control centers, one warehouse and six weapons and defense posts during the operation, said the military.

The statement added that Turkish warplanes were unable to strike three IS targets in Al-Bab on Tuesday as civilians were present at the time.

According to the Turkish Daily Sabah, Turkish soldiers with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters have been conscientiously carrying out "Operation Euphrates Shield" since late August 2016, avoiding harming civilians during the operation.

The Turkish Armed Forces launched the "Euphrates Shield Operation" last August against both the IS and the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), the military wing of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD).

Turkey considers both the YPG and the PYD as terrorist organizations due to their links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
