TALLINN, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid said Friday his country would further develop ties with the United States under a new president.
In a letter of congratulations to President Donald Trump, Kaljulaid said Estonia attaches great importance to strong relations with the U.S.
"We also need close transatlantic cooperation at a time when Europe and the United States face many common challenges, including terrorism and migration," she said.
She agrees with Trump on the view that an adequate level of defense spending is necessary for NATO in order to continue to effectively provide for collective defense and to contribute to global security.
Estonia is one of the five NATO members that meet the defense budget target of 2 percent of gross domestic prouduct, said Kaljulaid.
