AMMAN, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Jordan decided on Tuesday to increase fuel prices, said the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
In February, prices will increase from three to nine percent, the ministry said.
The price of unleaded 90 octane gasoline will be increased by seven percent, unleaded 95 octane gasoline by nine percent and kerosene and heavy fuel prices will be increased by three percent.
The ministry said the increase is due to rising global oil prices as well as support for the state budget.
However, the government said it will not currently change the prices of electricity and gas for household use.
On Monday, the government announced it will take several measures this year to generate around six billion U.S. dollars in revenues to offset Jordan's budget deficit.
Jordan imports about 97 percent of its energy requirements annually at around 18 percent of its gross domestic product.
