OUAGADOUGOU, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Unidentified gunmen attacked two police stations in northern Burkina Faso late on Monday, said the security ministry on Tuesday in a press release.
One person was injured in the attacks against Tongomaye and Baraboule police stations in the Soum region that also caused material damages, said the release.
A sweep operation is underway, it said, urging Burkina Faso people to remain calm.
Local media reported that the Ansarul Islam group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
The Islam group might have perpetrated the attack of a military camp that killed about 10 soldiers in December, according to the reports.
Burkina Faso's northern region saw a series of terrorist attacks over the past few years.
