WARSAW, March 2 (Xinhua) -- During a telephone conversation with Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson confirmed the lasting nature of transatlantic ties and allied obligations, ministry spokesperson Joanna Wajda told Polish Press Agency on Thursday.

The conversation concerned prospects for developing transatlantic relations and bilateral cooperation in the face of current international events and challenges to both countries' security, according to Wajda.

"Tillerson confirmed the lasting nature of transatlantic ties and allied obligations as well as the United States' commitment in working for the security of Europe and our region," Wajda said.

Waszczykowski thanked Tillerson for the United States' active stance in the process of reinforcing NATO's defense capabilities and for the growing U.S. presence in Poland and the region, Wajda added, referring to the implementation of the decisions reached at the NATO summit in Warsaw last July.

Waszczykowski and Tillerson agreed that these activities as well as the European Reassurance Initiative and bilateral Polish-U.S. security and defense projects were a very valuable investment in security and peaceful development, the Polish Foreign Ministry wrote in a press release.

The two officials also discussed the Ukraine crisis, expressing the hope that a joint effort of Europe and the United States would gradually enable the conflict to be resolved, Wajda said.

Waszczykowski and Tillerson said they hoped Polish-U.S. relations would continue to develop as dynamically as in recent years, not only in the key areas of security and defense but also in trade, investments and energy, according to Wajda.

The two officials hope to talk again at the Global Coalition Against Daesh meeting planned for March 21 in Washington.

Minister Waszczykowski invited Tillerson to visit Poland, Wajda added.
