LOS ANGELES, March 3 (Xinhua) -- "Convergence LA", a landmark public art installation funded by Chinese real-estate developer Greenland, was unveiled at downtown Los Angeles on Thursday night.

The artwork, which was created by local artists Susan Narduli and Refik Anadol, is a digital craftsmanship that visualizes historic and real-time data of Los Angeles and reflects it on a 100-foot-wide (30.48-meter) LED media wall.

"The really unique thing about this project - really ground breaking, is that this is an artwork telling the story of a city. It is taking live data that the city of Los Angeles is making all the time," Narduli told Xinhua.

She said the visuals were created by various kinds of data, including tectonic, weather, social media, news feed, and traffic.

"In fact, this piece is always live, always new, and it's always informed by the data in the moment that's being made by the city," the artist added.

Jose Huizar, a Los Angeles City Council member, said this digital artwork would potentially increase the traffic in downtown L.A. area.

"People are going to be curious" and they are going to "talk about it," Huizar said. Once they understand what this means and how it comes together, they will "start visiting."

"Convergence LA" is located on the facade of Metropolis, a Greenland property that Council member Huizar described as "a huge second spark" of revitalization after the establishment of L.A. Live, and this spark encouraged many other investors to invest in downtown L.A.

L.A. Live is an entertainment complex occupying more than 520,000 square meters in downtown of the city, adjacent to the Staples Center and Los Angeles Convention Center.

"We have a great working relationship with Chinese investors right now," Huizar said. "We're looking forward to continue that relationship."
