LA PAZ, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Bolivian President Evo Morales returned Tuesday after a six-day stay in Cuba to receive medical treatment and a brief visit to Venezuela.
In a statement, the government said he will start to resume his presidential duties on Wednesday with a cabinet meeting and the signing of a new law on coca agriculture.
It also announced that Morales had travelled to Havana to receive diagnosis and treatment on his throat infection.
The Bolivian top leader's ailment has caused widespread political speculations in the country in recent days.
The government explained that Morales has "benign tumors" on his vocal cords, which was measured between one and two millimeters.
Health Minister Ariana Campero said Morales will return to Havana for an operation in April, adding he was suffering an internal virus and sinusitis.
Bolivia and Cuba, which have been known for its advanced medical technology in Latin America, are close political partners. Both nations are members of the regional economic and integrationist alliance "Bolivarian Alternative for the People of our America."
