TOKYO, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Wednesday morning mirroring U.S. shares' downward trend, with pharmaceutical companies under pressure following U.S. President Donald Trump tweeting about lowering drug prices.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 97.51 points, or 0.50 percent, from Tuesday to 19,246.64.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 5.87 points, or 0.38 percent, to 1,549.17.
Notable decliners by the morning break comprised marine transportation, pharmaceutical, and iron and steel-linked stocks.
