(Sports)Laos to host Baton Run to promote regional sports events

VIENTIANE, March 10 (Xinhua) -- A running event is scheduled to be held here on Saturday to foster excitement for the upcoming 29th Southeast Asia (SEA) Games and the 9th ASEAN Para Games that will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in August and September.

The "Rising Together Baton Run" event is organized by the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Laos in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Malaysia and the Embassy of Malaysia to the Laos.

Among the objectives of the Baton Run is to create awareness about the SEA Games, spark excitement and celebration leading up to the SEA Games, and to reflect the spirit of togetherness as well as to symbolize unity among Southeast Asian countries, according to the Lao state-run media Vientiane Times on Friday.

The Honorable Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia Datuk M. Saravanan and Minister of Education and Sports of the Laos Sengdeuane Lachanthaboun are expected to participate as the guests of honor during the event.

Other participants will include senior government officials, representatives of SEA countries, sports fraternities from Laos including prominent Olympics and Paralympics athletes. Enditem
